Sign the petition to help keep scootering in California skate parks.
I've seen a few posts about this topic and Katherine from 5StarrScooters.com (be sure to notice the 2 Rs) called my attention this issue. My understanding of the situation is that certain cities in California, including San Clemente, are trying to ban scooters from skate parks because of the liability of potential injury. The reason why this isn't a concern with skateboarding and BMX is because those sports are on a list of activities deemed "hazardous recreational activities" (HRA). When a sport is on that list, the city's liability is limited with regard to injuries for individuals participating in that sport.
Paxton Swygard in "Scoot To Thrill - 2011" Part 1 of 4: Beaverton, Reedville, Ripzu, Renton, Vancouver, Woodward, Newberg, Epic
A ScooterDad.com Production
"Scoot To Thrill - 2011" is a 4-part feature highlighting Paxton Swygard's freestyle scootering in 2011. We will be releasing one of the four parts each Friday for four weeks. When the last part of the video is released, we'll also publish a full feature version that is not chopped into 4 parts. The clips in this video were compiled from all of our filming last year with the exception of some clips that were used in other videos that we chose to exclude. The editing process for something like this is long and arduous, but well worth the effort once you complete it.

If you're in the northern mid-west, check out the Scooter Camp hosted at Woodward in Lake Owen, WI from July 29th through August 4th.
Following the Scooter Camp hosted at Woodward in Tehachapi, CA back in February, I've received a lot of feedback from parents and kids asking about other scooter camps through the country. I recently heard about this week-long scooter camp hosted at the Woodward Camp in Lake Owen, Wisconsin later this summer. The really exciting thing about this camp is that Woodward's Lake Owen Camp is promoting in on their own website. In fact, they even have a full section of the site devoted to their scooter program, which means that our sport is really starting to get some well-deserved recognition.
Don't measure your success in terms of your sponsorship status and don't think that lack of sponsorship is what is holding you back.
Scooter kids are frequently asking me about sponsorship: "will you sponsor me?1", "how can I get sponsored?", "do you know if [some brand] is sponsoring?", "can you get me on a team?", and so on. I wish I had good news for everyone, but the sad fact is that it's really difficult to get sponsored and it's becoming more challenging for a number of reasons. Many kids end up frustrated because they make the act of trying to get sponsored the primary focus of their riding. Think back to why you started riding scooters in the first place. Was it because you wanted get sponsored? Or was it because you loved riding and how it made you feel? Sponsorship as an end-goal is not a healthy mentality to have in this sport or any other and here's why:
