Clamp

Ask ScooterDad: I have a fasen Raven, and I would like to put on hic bars, I then discovered a ihc to hic apex kit with a clamp, however will this conversion kit work with all hic bars or only apex? Thanks

I wasn't aware of this conversion kit until just now. It's a good idea, but I haven't tried it or seen it in person to be able to offer much advice as to how it works. Generally, I wouldn't recommend oversized bars with IHC as people usually try to do this with multiple shims, which creates instability. This conversion kit may work, but I'd be skeptical until I see it working in person.

Ask ScooterDad: I'm getting blunt soul bars for my fasen Raven and I'm thinking of cutting down the height of the bars, how big does the slit need to be compared to my double clamp? Thanks

Answer:

For anything other than SCS compression (which shouldn't have a slit), the slit in your bars should be just slightly taller than your clamp.

Ask ScooterDad: Is it okay if i put an scs clamp on my hic bars? i kneed to put a longer clamp on,thats why.

Nope, an SCS won't work as a clamp for HIC because it has a ledge inside the clamp and 2 different different inner diameters for bars and fork. If you need a taller clamp for HIC, look for an oversized triple or quad clamp. However, your clamp should only need to be about 2 inches tall, the same as the slit in your bars.

Ask ScooterDad: I'm getting oversized apex Bol bars for my vx5 pro and it has ihc compression what will I need to get to make the rest of my scooter

Oversized bars are not compatible with IHC, so you'll need to get a new fork (standard threadless) and either a fullsized SCS or an oversized clamp and HIC shim.

Ask ScooterDad: Why do bars need slits and what do slits really do? Are they necessary?

Answer:

If you have an external clamping mechanism (ICS, IHC, HIC), then you need a slit in your bars. Without the slit, the bars will resist compression and the clamp will do nothing to squeeze the bars against the fork or shim. The slit allows for compression of the bars. This is not true with SCS as you want the bars to be solid and resist compression since there is nothing inside the bars.

Ask ScooterDad: Hi, will sacrifice reo t-bars work with IHC compression? thanks :)

It looks like they are standard diameter bars, so you could get them to work with IHC by cutting a slit in the bars and using a standard diameter clamp.
