Bars

Ask ScooterDad: I'm Wondering If I Can Convert Standard Scooter Bars Into Oversized Bars. Is That Possible??

Answer:

It's sorta-possible. Some bar builders have done what they call "tapering" bars. This is the process by which a larger, oversized bar (pipe) is welded over the standard diameter bars that have been cut shorter. Essentially, it makes the bars look like this terrible diagram:

----
|  |
|  |
|  |                              |--------------------|
|  |--------------------------------------             |
|  |--------------------------------------             |
|  |                              |
--------------------|
|  |

|  |
----

However, that's not a very practical solution since it requires welding. The short answer is no, you can't up-convert standard diameter bars to oversized bars.

Ask ScooterDad: So im planning on building a scooter and these are the parts i picked envy aosv3 charles padel sig deck, fasen ihc fork, fasen headset, district helmer bars, district helmeri clamp are all these parts compatible?

Answer:

Those should work as long as you get the oversized version of the clamp to accomodate for the aluminum bars' oversized outer diameter.

Ask ScooterDad: I have a mgp vx4 team and I want to upgrade my stock bars the one I want is oversized though and is there anything I can do to make them fit

Answer:

The MGP VX4 Team scooter comes with oversized bars (see MGP page showing that it has HIC, which means oversized bars), so replacement oversized bars would work! :)

Ask ScooterDad: I got my hic compression system stuck in my bars. How do I get it out?

Answer:

Try heating up your bars and HIC shim with a hair dryer or heat gun. Be VERY CAREFUL, but it might make the metal expand just enough to releive some pressure and allow you to pull the shim out.

Ask ScooterDad: Hi scooterdad what should I get for my 8 year old the ultra pro or the ultra pro lo I want the scooter to last

Submitter's Name:
Tristan Gallagher
Answer:

The only difference between the Ultra Pro and the Ultra Pro Lo is the height of the bars. At 8 years old, the Lo is probably closer to the right height. By the time he's ready for taller bars, he'll probably want a new scooter or replacement bars.

Ask ScooterDad: I've heard there are different types of bars im looking to buy a scooter (im 13 about to turn 14) and ive seen some scooter on 5starrscooters.com and some of them have different type of bars. What type of bars should I get on a scooter?

Answer:

There are standard bars and oversized bars. Additionally, there are steel bars (standard or oversized) and aluminum bars (standard inner diameter, oversized outer diameter). The type of bars you use will be determined by the type of compression you want to use and vice versa. Standard bars work with threaded compression, IHC, ICS, and small SCS (or fullsized SCS with shim). Oversized bars work with fullsized SCS and HIC. Aluminum bars work with ICS and fullsized SCS.
