Ask ScooterDad

Ask ScooterDad: I have Root Industry grips. They are very soft but cause some serious blisters. Is there a reason why and what grips should I get if these grips still give blisters.

Answer:

If they are too soft, they may be cause your hands to slip around on the bars causing blisters. Try some ODI Longneck Softies. Most kids love the ODI Longneck grip and the Softy version has a softer feel to it.

Ask ScooterDad: does the Madd Gears VX1 JAM Scooter have a hic fork

Answer:

No, that scooter has a threaded fork and threaded headset. You would need a threadless fork and threadless headset, plus oversized bars and oversized clamp, in order to run HIC.

Ask ScooterDad: what is a good beginners scooter for a person used to a razor?

Answer:

The Envy Prodigy is a great entry-level scooter for someone wanting to step up from a Razor. 5Starr, Grit, Crisp, and Lucky all have great entry-level scooters as well.

Ask ScooterDad: I have a Fasen Raven 2015 Edition. I have been told that it is a IHC compression scooter. What type of Apex Bol bars will fit on my scooter... HIC or Standard. Or will niether of these fit my scooter...?

Answer:

The Fasen Raven does indeed have IHC compression which is compatible with standard diameter bars. You want the Apex Bol standard bars with a slit cut in them.

Ask ScooterDad: can I get oversized bars to fit ihc compression

Answer:

You might technically be able to get oversized bars to fit IHC by using the IHC shim and the HIC shim, but that would create a very unstable system. I do not recommend going with this method. If you want to use oversized bars, you need a standard fork and HIC or full-size SCS. If you want to use IHC, you need standard diameter bars.

Ask ScooterDad: I am getting fasen spiral bars and a proto double clamp. do I need to get rid of the slit on bars to get it to fit?

Answer:

By "Proto double clamp," I assume you mean the Half-knuckle clamp. You want a slit in your bars for IHC, ICS, and HIC. You only want NO SLIT if you are using SCS. Since the Half-knuckle is not an SCS, you would want the slit in your bars.
